The YWCA of Canberra is a Registered Training Organisation and offers:
- Certificate III in Children’s Services (CHC30708)
- Certificate IV in Out of School Hours Care (CHC41208) and
- Diploma of Children's Services (CHC50908).
These courses are delivered as traineeships, and are suitable for those who wish to gain skills required to work as a trained child care assistant. Students will learn about professional development, children’s health and safety, basic child development and programming, welfare, wellbeing and so on.
The training teaches you to be aware of the developmental needs of children and introduces you to your role and responsibilities in a child care environment.
You will get opportunities to apply theories of child development in the workplace and to gain experience in interacting with children, families and your fellow workers.
First Aid is arranged as a separate undertaking. If you do not already have a current First Aid certificate, please talk to your trainer/assessor on your first visit.
Certificate III in Children’s Services (CHC30708)
is the pathway to the Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education and Care) CHC50908.This qualification covers workers who use individual children’s profiles and organisational policies and procedures to provide care and nurturing to children age 0 to school age. The workers plan and implement a range of appropriate experiences for children and facilitate their leisure and play enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes.

Certificate IV in Out of School Hours Care (41208)
is the pathway to the Diploma of Out of School Hours Care.This qualification covers workers who are working in vacation programs and before and after school hours care programs. The workers plan and implement activities and provide care to children, facilitate their leisure and play enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes.
Workers at this level may work under direct supervision or autonomously. Workers are likely to have some supervisory responsibilities for volunteers and other workers.

Diploma of Children's Services (Early Childhood Education and Care - CHC50908)
The CHC50908 Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education and Care) is for people who want to gain employment as an Authorised Supervisor (Children’s Services), Children’s Services Co-ordinator, Centre Manager, Director or Group Leader in a child care centre, Child Development Worker, or as a Children’s Service Director/Manager.
This qualification covers workers in children’s services who are responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood services, in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements. A graduate will have responsibility for supervision of other staff and volunteers and be at director or service manager level for children’s service centre-based care.
To gain entry into CHC50908 Diploma of Children’s Services (Early childhood education and care) you must demonstrate competence through a recognised training program or recognition process, in the all 11 core units and one elective unit of competency, CHCCN305A Provide Care for Babies, of the Cert III in Children’s Services CHC30708.

Business Administration and Frontline Management Qualifications

These courses are delivered as traineeships, and are suitable for those who wish to gain skills required to work as a business administrative officer or a team leader. The training provides students with a broad knowledge base and builds on theoretical concepts of business and management.
Certificate III in Business Administration (BSB30407)
The Certificate III in Business Administration is designed for individuals who will apply a broad range of administrative competencies in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement. They may provide technical advice and support to a team.
Certificate III in Business Administration will introduce learners to the concepts of business administration, placing emphasis on teaching students a wide range of skills including financial matters, IT techniques, customer services, workplace relationship building; and working as an effective team member. A great course to use as a stepping stone into an administrator role

The Certificate III in Frontline Management is pitched at those who provide basic leadership and guidance to small groups of others and have limited responsibility for the effective functioning and performance of a unit and its work outcomes. They are likely to have existing technical skills, but require some training in the basics of supervision. They typically report to a supervisor or team leader

This course is for those Individuals who may be working or looking to enter into management support role and follow a management career in a professional development and for Individuals who wish to upgrade their management skills and obtain a qualification that confirms these newly acquired management skills.
This programme provides a broad knowledge base and builds on theoretical concepts of business and management. It prepares the learner with the ability to apply management solutions to business areas in a defined range of situations. The course includes studies in individual and teamwork priorities, promotion and business operations and planning. It also prepares you for entry into further studies such as Diploma of Management, then Advanced Diploma or a degree study.
