Ainslie Precinct Community Development Project
The YWCA of Canberra Ainslie Precinct Community Development Project aims to assist public and community housing tenants to develop skills and confidence in building community capacity. The service assists residents living in the East Civic / Ainslie Avenue district, with a specific focus on people living at Ainslie Village, Bega and Allawah Flats and Kanangra and Jerilderie Courts.
Utilising a strengths-based approach to community development, the Project links residents of public and social housing to a range of community and support services and promotes tenant driven activities fostering a stronger sense of community. The community and public housing tenants in receipt of support will develop skills and confidence in relation to the management of their housing and personal circumstances, this will build the communities capacity.
The Ainslie Precinct Project provides a range of support in both individual and group settings, and aims to deliver services that result in positive outcomes for public and community housing tenants, including:
- an improved sense of well-being and safety within their immediate environments
- a greater sense of connection to their immediate and broader communities
- the opportunity to further develop living skills
- a greater understanding of community supports and an enhanced ability to access these supports
- an opportunity to contribute to their communities thus increasing the capacity of those communities to support their members.
