YWCA of Canberra Housing and Social Inclusion Unit
The YWCA of Canberra Housing and Social Inclusion Unit provides supported accommodation, information, advocacy and referral to assist families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to access, maintain or develop safe, secure, affordable, appropriate and independent housing, with specific focus on the needs of children within the service.
We work with families who want both accommodation and support. There may be issues like parenting, budgeting and finance, mental health, drug and alcohol, domestic violence, and other things that people need a hand with.
We provide an outreach service. Our workers are able to meet with you at a place that is convenient for you. Where the service cannot provide direct support we will refer you to an appropriate service.
Our houses are furnished and we charge rent at approximately 25% a family’s combined income. However, capacity to pay is not a criterion of eligibility.
The YWCA of Canberra Housing Unit is committed to promoting the principles of social justice. As a user of the YWCA of Canberra Housing Support Service you have rights and responsibilities. For a full list of your Rights and Responsibilities please contact us.

76 Rose Street
In 2011 we celebrated Week Without Violence by launching 76 Rose Street – an interactive exhibition that provided a unique opportunity to visualise domestic violence through a simple recreation of an ordinary apartment.
Complementing the exhibition is our interactive web tool which raises public awareness of domestic violence in Australia and informs people about how to get help should it be required. The aim of the tool is to make domestic violence more visible and bring it out from behind closed doors.
The exhibition and web tool were made possible with assistance from the ACT Government. Click here to visit the interactive web tool.
